Hamilton takes controlled win as Vettel retires

Sunday 13th November 2011, 14:46 by Ryan Wood

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton led his 1,000th race lap in Formula 1 after taking his third victory of the 2011 season with a controlled win in Abu Dhabi.

The 26-year-old gained the lead at turn two on the very first lap following a mystery puncture for Sebastian Vettel, the German's first retirement since the 2010 Korean GP.

He finished a handful of seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso, whilst Jenson Button completes the podium ahead of Mark Webber.

Felipe Massa rounded off the top five with the two Mercedes and Force India cars completing the top nine with Kamui Kobayashi claiming the final point.
