Barrichello laments 300th GP opening lap error

Sunday 29th August 2010, 16:05

A disappointing end to Rubens Barrichello's 300th grand prix, but the Brazilian is confident his 301st will be better.

The Williams driver couldn't slow his car down sufficiently enough going into the final chicane on lap one of the Belgian GP, that resulted in him slamming into the side of Fernando Alonso's Ferrari - which, surprisingly, suffered little damage and continued.

Barrichello explained that the difficult conditions caught him by surprise.

"Despite my experience, it was very difficult to know how wet the track was on the opening lap, but it was fully wet when I came into Blanchimont," he said.

"I was closing the door on Rosberg and when I touched the brakes, even though it was quite early, it wasn’t sufficient to stop the car."

He then apologised to the Spaniard for ruining both their races.

"The car went straight on into Alonso, for which I'm sorry. It's also sad for the team. We've had such a positive weekend that a good result would have been a nice conclusion.

"Despite not having a good outcome in my 300th race, I’m confident we will go well in the 301st!"
