Ferrari's Rivalling Stallions
Heading into the ninth race of 2010, many driver rivalries are set to continue with their enthralment far beyond the race calendar of this season.
The formidable influence of seven time World Champion Michael Schumacher for more competative car updates over Mercedes team mate Nico Rosberg, to the primal animalistic marking of territory ding-dong of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel as the school kids of McLaren, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, muck about on the back of the school bus as they outwit and learn from each other as they go, are just some of the rivalries that Formula 1 fans have already seen thus far.
However, there is one rivalry that everyone knows about, yet no-one seems to be talking much about. That being the stampeeding stallions of Ferrari, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa.
The move of Alonso to Ferrari was the worst kept secret of last season. Everyone knew it was going to happen and that it was only a matter of time, despite the weak attempts of denial.
Many commented at the time of the potential rivalry between the two drivers once the confirmation from Ferrari came through. Two very different personalities, two very different driving styles, under the same roof.
Ferrari's newest driver Alonso has always been an open and forward aggressive driver. He doesn't beat around the bush in letting you know exactly what he wants, when he wants it and how he's going to go about getting it. He's competative by nature, this becoming obvious to the people around him after being given his first kart aged three.
Massa on the other hand, is the silent predator. Equally as competative as Alonso, he's the one who watches quietly, waiting for the right moment to make his strike, and his pressence known. He's certainly a driver that others, including Alonso, shouldn't underestimate.
However, Formula 1 fans have yet to see all of this bubbling rivalry. We were all given a glimpse of what it could be like if unleashed, during the Chinese Grand Prix, when Alonso raced Massa up the pit lane during lap twenty two, giving Alonso the jump on position and Massa the drop.
Perhaps once the grip issues have been resolved by Ferrari, we will get to see more rivalry action between these two drivers, and add to what is shaping up to be one very interesting season.
