Old Men and Their Grudges...
Here's the scenario. It's the weekend of a very famous F1 team's 800th Grand Prix. You're a 70 year old man who used to be the head of the FIA. You've been in group sex scandals and you used to be seen as the fascist overlord who tried to drive F1 into the ground with stupid decisions and knee jerk reactions. So what better to do than try to ruin this team's history making weekend by perpetuating past rumours about this team. Hey! Why not link it to race fixing and cheating allegations! A great idea! Surely everybody will listen and make a big deal about it. WRONG
From 1993 to 2009 F1 has endured the wrath of Mr Max Mosley as head of the FIA. It's commonly agreed in the F1 paddock and amongst fans alike that Mosley 'ruled' F1 like a dictator. Radical changes to Formula One like the aerodynamic ammendments introduced in 2009 and the change from V10 to V8 engines didn't really help Mosley's popularity positively.
However during Ferrari's reign of domination while Schumacher and Barichello occupied each seat, Ferrari shared a strong bond with the FIA. This link was constantly questioned by fans as suspicious. Ferrari would succeed in FIA related issues where other teams would not.
But in the wake of the Turkish Grand Prix, Mosley thought he might flip flop on Ferrari and hopefully ruin their moment in the spotlight. But through announcing that Ferrari tried to manipulate the FIA, he couldn't have failed any worse. Particularly because nobody cares. If nobody respected him while he was head of the FIA, who is going to respect him now after the conservative changes Mosley's imposed on Formula One? Making allegations against Ferrari is simply an ungentlemanly act and proves Mosley is a bitter old man who wants more respect than he deserves.
Thank FOTA that he's gone. Formula One has reached a new age of 'peace'
